(Day -90) Narrowing Window, Being Here

For work reasons, I didn’t plan to join this trip.  Why did I end up joining after all?  It was our 2-week trip to Belize and Guatemala this Easter.  We were also backpacking.  I saw different sides of Sofia and Aidan during the trip, seeing them interacting with the locals, people in the hostel, and fellow travellers - I learned something new about the kids I didn’t get an opportunity to at

home.  I want more of that.

I felt like I was missing out on the opportunity to learn about who my kids are if I don’t take advantage of this upcoming six-week trip.

The kids also got a glimpse of how we were before we had them.  They can see a different side of us that comes out when we backpack.  I want my kids to learn more about me as Joanna beyond their mom.   I never got to know much of who my parents were as individuals, how they were when they were young before they had me.

The way we travel created an environment for us to learn about each other, mutually.

The kids are growing up fast.  The window for us to travel as a family, I realized, is finite and narrowing.

So here I am.
